SEO-Based Blog

When writing an SEO-based article, it’s important to start by choosing a trending subject. In August 2023, the hot topic that rocked the UI/UX world was Figma’s launch of Dev Mode. You can find the complete article here. This update bridged the gap between designers and developers allowing both talents to play on the same field.

GOAL: Write a relevant blog covering the latest news in the design & development world.

For a brief moment in time, Google Trends was blowing up with queries like Figma, Dev Mode, Config, and more. For news sites this was a jackpot of content and I, likewise, wanted to strike gold. I knew I could offer a unique perspective since I planned on attending Config in person.

PROCESS: Physically attended Figma’s conference to hear firsthand about Dev Mode.

Traveling to San Francisco, I scribbled careful notes as I witnessed firsthand live demonstrations of Dev Mode from the company’s leaders. Writing for a creative and technical audience, I understood my content needed to cover as many of these new features and tools as possible.

I took advantage of free writing and SEO tools from Ahrefs, SEMrush, and HubSpot to help me analyze the top SERPs on Google. In my writing process, I always check the top ranking websites to perform a content gap analysis, analyze the headlines, and check the average length of each article. I took all of these factors into account as I drafted my own outline.

Tools like Keywords Everywhere helped me find the most popular keywords to include in my content while softwares like SurferSEO helped me quickly write a high ranking article with the use of AI. Then, I edited the alt texts, title tags, and meta descriptions to ensure the backend SEO looked as good as the front end.

RESULTS: Since the first blog was a hit and gained traction, I wrote a follow up blog to recap the actual experience and opinions of our designers and developers on the new update.

After publishing, I noticed this blog performed well on Google Analytics and Search Console with higher reading times and more click throughs so I wrote a successful follow up article a couple months later. This subsequent article reviewed the software update and required that I interview our team of developers and designers.

These articles showcase my ability to research and cover trending, time-sensitive topics while adhering to SEO best practices in a creative and interesting writing style.
